Lafayette Club To Open New Poker RoomThe Lafayette Club, one in a chain of three clubs owned and operated by the River Clubs of Indiana, will be opening a new poker room on Oct. 7. Matthew Lackey, the group's Indiana public relations manager said that the new development in The Lafayette Club follows all Indiana gambling regulations. "It is a totally legal, above-ground operation," Lackey said. Once the poker room opens, it will be hosting several special events throughout each month. Poker tournaments will take place six nights per week, and free tournaments will take place two Saturdays of each month. Moreover, because of Lafayette's proximity to the Purdue campus, it will be holding a "college night" every first Wednesday of the month. Usually, there is a $25 entrance fee to the club, but on a "College Night", the fee is waived. Students only need to show a valid college I.D. "We don't want kids gambling away money they can't afford to lose," Lackey said. A management student in Purdue, Jason Jang, said that there is definitely a market for poker players on his campus. He himself says that he enjoys playing poker, and might want to attend one of the tournaments. On the grand opening of the new poker room in The Lafayette Club, a $1000 guaranteed pot prize will be offered, said the club manager. |
