Taking a Look at WSOP Winners of the 80's

The 1980's is marked by pop icons like Madonna and Michael Jackson. But to poker players who won the World Series of Poker main event in the 1980's, it is so much more than that. Winning in the WSOP main event is truly a remarkable and unforgettable experience. To the winners, it would be a memory to last a lifetime.

Some of the poker winners in the WSOP main event in 1980's are Jack Straus, Tom McEvoy, Jack Keller and Bill Smith.

Jack Straus won the WSOP main event in 1982. He was known for many things aside from winning the said event. Take his height for example. He stood six feet and six inches tall, earning him the moniker Treetop. It is not often that a poker hand is named after a poker player, but the 7-2 hand is named after Jack Straus. He is also known for having won with just a 500 dollar chip left. At that game, he pushed all his chips to the pot to call, but after he supposedly lost, he discovered another chip hidden from his view. The management let him play further since he did not announce that he was all-in.

A year after Straus won, Tom McEvoy triumphed in the main event of the WSOP. He started learning poker at the very young age of five and then he continued his learning by reading poker books. He was known not only for his WSOP accomplishments, but also his love for writing. All in all, he has written eleven books on poker, two of them are entitled Tournament Poker and How to Win at Poker. Aside from being a book author, he also contributed to the Card Player Magazine. This may have sprung from his love for books.

After Tom McEvoy, the next poker player who won the main event in WSOP was Jack Keller, a renowned aggressive poker player. He should have been the greatest ever, ig not for his drug addiction. He passed away in Tunica, another popular gambling site.

While Jack Keller is an aggressive poker player, Bill Smith, who won the succeeding main event of the WSOP, is a very tight poker player. If Jack Keller was a drug addict, Bill Smith on the other hand is addicted to alcohol. One of the funniest stories in Bill Smith's life is when he was arrested for gambling, not once but three times in one day.
